Applied theatre, as the name suggests allows practitioners to apply the skill, knowledge and various theatre devices in the community. Applied theatre challenges the participants to shape social change, and spread awareness in a therapeutic way. It also challenges the practitioner to explore the possibilities beyond conventional theatre.

It’s a great educational and fun filled pursuit.

Non space specific performance:

I find my knowledge of language helps me to interact with the South Asian diaspora quite easily. I use my movement training and understanding of Street Theatre to develop theatre in unusual and alternative spaces as part of applied theatre practice. This practice is effective, engaging and easy to present especially when working with the immigrant community.

Popular workshops that I facilitate:

  • Rasa, theatre aesthetics. (Discussion/Demonstration)
  • Intercultural theatre and language in a migrant society. (Discussion/Improvisation)
  • Combat, Mudra and Movements. (Demonstration/Workshop)
  • Lighting, Music and Costume in a South Asian plot. (Discussion/Insight)
  • Chhau Dance, an introduction of athletic performance. (Discussion/Demonstration/Workshop)
